A lipid profile test is a blood test that measures the amount of cholesterol (fats/triglycerides) in your blood. An excessive amount of these fats can clog the arteries, and this can lead to a stroke, or even heart failure. On many instances it is also called a complete cholesterol test.
A lipid profile test is conducted among adults and children who are suspected to have a high blood cholesterol value and triglycerides. Triglycerides are a type of fat (lipid) that are present in the blood. Although this type of fat is needed when you need energy between meals, excess levels of this fat can be dangerous for your health because after a while it begins to clog your heart arteries. Unfortunately, the damage caused by high lipid content or high cholesterol is visible only when it is too late. Hence, it is very important that you get yourself a lipid profile test from a reputed lab routinely or as prescribed by your physician.
